#1 Box Breathing

Square breathing is an exercise that will help you connect with your body, but can also, shift your energy, calm your nervous system, and decrease stress. It is also referred to as box breathing.

You can practice Square breathing standing with both feet parallel and hip-width apart or sited in a chair with both feet on the floor.

How to do square breathing

  • Slowly, exhale all of your air out.

  • Gently, inhale through your nose to a slow count of 4.

  • Hold at the top of the breath for a count of 4.

  • Gently, exhale through your mouth for a count of 4.

  • At the bottom of the breath, pause and hold for the count of 4.

Remember to check your shoulders and neck remain relaxed during the exercise.

You can practice at any time of the day and repeat it several times. This is a good exercise to practice before singing, but also to calm yourself down when trying to sleep or to reset your mind, and you can do it anywhere!
